whats your style

when moving or re-designing your home, this can be the most stressful times for some, take these few guidelines, figure out what's your style and create your dream from it...

Eclectic
A eclectic room should have the look of a well travelled room, should contain pieces of different eras and styles conducive to the home owners taste. Yellow is a popular color in an eclectic space as shown here, eclectic spaced tend to lend themselves quite well to any three of the primary colors. The use of red and rich gold’s helps provide the backdrop for this space. Furnishings are a mix style of ornate chairs east Asian textiles, with a mix of cleaner lined dark stained teak coffee table. The area rug is in a busy woven multi color wool, in a very Moroccan style pattern. The accessories in an eclectic room are what give it “pizazz”. They give the room a character all onto itself. The mix of blue china vases and bowls with intricate carvings ivory statues and different pictures depicting places from around the world give a sense of intriguee into this room, also added fun whimsical pieces, add great conversation piece . Eclecticc rooms are one of fun and a light hearted approach; it is a room where the homeowner can display all of their most treasured travel finds and family air looms as well.

Contemporary
A contemporary room is clean lined and simple with emphasise on linear details and structural design. I believe that this room meets and surpasses these qualities. The blush blonde colors of flooring and carried up onto the cabinets continues the flow, and added embellishment on the cabinets provides them with a defined outline. The hardware on the cabinets are sleek and clean lined and over sized which is commonly found in contemporary style kitchens. The counter top is kept clean and with less clutter then most kitchens to again continue the sleekness of the kitchen and allows you to enjoy the minimal details in the woodwork rather then to confuse your eyes. The material used on the counter top is black high polished granite with a square finished bull nose to keep the simplicity of the room. Paint color is within the same family of colors used throughout the space, not to compete with the other pieces rather then to showcase them. This room, with its clean lines and minimalist’s style is what a contemporary room should evoke.

Traditional
The traditional style is one that most people are drawn to, its is easy to look at and appreciate and has a class of sophistication. This room has style of a traditional den or library which are found in larger homes or mansions, but this look can also be achieve in smaller home and condos. With use of the following aspects. The use of rich shades of wood with dark cognac colors and built-ins provide the perfect backdrop for a traditional room. The style of furniture of rich leather with chintz fabrics and the use of ottomans skirted with braided cord in a color that compliments the room and soft furnishings in it as well. The mantle in a Venetian plaster contrast the color of the paneling on the wall and helps enhance the grandeur of the room. Chandelier and accessories are elaborate in gold finishes, but also contrasted with the feel of antiquities established though out the years.

This room does all the appropriate things to achieve that traditional gentlemen’s room.

Formal
Formal rooms are one of my favorite rooms to work with as a designer, Formal rooms are elegant and timeless a room that can last the test of time. This room is the epitome of formal. The placement of furniture, flanking the sides of the fire place, with the club chair upholstered in a stripe fabric, which is a fabric most preferred in formal setting. The fire p
lace mantel and art above it are in a formal style and placement of the candelabras with symmetry help achieve that formal style, things should be placed in pairs and balanced evenly. The use of fire place accessories and white marble hearth. Window covering are long and flowing in a very elaborate fabric with glowing hues of creams and white on textiles on the sofa. this room achieves elegance with ease

Casual
A
casual room should feel relaxed and uninhibited, it should feel light and airy and welcoming, it should have casually placed furniture and furnishing, with an emphasis on family living, but these aspects should not be confused with rooms that are disorganized and unimportant, it is still very important to keep with cleanliness and a cohesive style flow, this room cover’s all of these aspects. The color of wood finishes used is one of a more relaxed and lighter finish, and finished in a satin clear coat. To not make it feel to delicate or uninviting. The color has been kept light and contrasted with darker hues of rust colors to achieve a more rustic style. Accessories and art work has been positioned low and in un-traditional placement, flowers arrangements are loose and fresh and share and don’t compete with the style of the room. The furniture placement has also been placed in a very relaxed style conducive to watching TV, are playing family games. All these elements and styling techniques have made this room, one of a casual style.

Country
Country rooms are indicative of a “ country style” and rustic look, with combinations of finished and unfinished surfaces, country leaning more to loose and unstructured fabrics and patterns with colors being
light and those of nature and of gardens. This room with its light coloring and its use of nature achieves the French country style. The use of farm animals is quite common in a country style home. Woods with a rustic carved style that look aged and weather, really lend a hand to achieving that county look, the use of weaved baskets coppers and the placement of the patterned fabrics continue to add to the look and style. Furniture in a county style is more a mix of used antique furniture, but not having that Victorian style more a combination of weathered and used furnishings mixed with simple clean lines of classic furniture. There is French country, English country and American country all three looks are indicatively different but are all country.
